The Red Hart Bodham
Welcome to The Red Hart
A friendly welcome awaits you at our family run traditional 17th century Inn in the heart of the village of Bodham.
‘The Hart’ has been run by the Merritt family since 2013, most recently the eldest son and his young family have moved in to be the current landlord. You’ll usually find one of the family behind the bar engaging in some friendly banter with one of the locals. You’ll always be assured of a warm welcome at the Hart and we’re always happy to help you with any knowledge on the local area.
We are situated just off the A148, 4 miles from historic market town of Holt and 4 miles from the seaside town of Sheringham. The bustling holiday town of Cromer with its 118 year old pier still enjoying traditional summer shows is only 6 miles away.
The Red Hart Inn is a traditional 17th century building dating back to 1603 when it was a dwelling but 1607 it was purchased by a Richard Jervys who applied for a ale licence to allow the trade of sale in 1802 it was known as the Red Lion but by 1826 was showing on the map as the Hart.
From 1908-1981 the Red Hart was run by the Sayer family and you will more than likely find Derek, the grandson of Charles Henry Sayer, the original Sayer landlord of the Hart, in the bar late in the evenings, telling tales of his boyhood days in the pub and sipping on his rum & coke.
The restaurant and function room was originally a cow shed but converted into its current guise back in the 1980’s.
