This latest venture from Matthew and Nicola Colchester brings together more than three decades of hospitality experience. Restaurant
At The Swan, our menu reflects the creativity and expertise of our talented chefs – who bring experience from the Recruiting Sergeant. Showcasing the best local ingredients and drawing inspiration from both classic English fare and vibrant world flavours, the dishes offer something for every appetite. From generous plates of comforting pub favourites to lighter bites with a modern twist, we aim to create a dining experience that is both familiar and refreshingly different.

Special Diets
Our food is freshly cooked so we can modify many menu items to cater for those on special diets such as gluten or dairy free.
Lounge Bar & Garden
Our completely refurbished bar area is the perfect place to unwind with a pint of local beer at the end of the day, enjoy a celebratory cocktail before eating in the restaurant, or catch up over a cappuccino.
Sample our selection of local real ales and contemporary lagers; indulge in our bespoke menu of cocktails from Edmunds; sip outstanding wines from Peter Graham Wines.
Soak up the views from our front terrace as you watch the world go by, or relax in our spacious garden tucked away at the back – perfect for lazy lunches and evening drinks. All outdoor tables are available on a walk-in basis only.

We are happy to provide group dining experiences for any occasion, and can offer flexible timing and catering arrangements to suit your needs.
Celebrations
Unfortunately, due to a lack of facilities in which to keep them safe until required, we cannot accept cakes brought in by customers. As an alternative we are very happy to provide candles and plates decorated with a celebratory message for the special person(s) – please ask us for a celebration plate. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience or upset this may cause, and thank you for your understanding.
Dog Policy
We are a dog-friendly venue and welcome well-behaved dogs on leads. Please mention when booking if you are bringing a dog, so that an appropriate table may be allocated.
If dining in the bar or restaurant with your dog we ask that owners be sensitive to other guests. If a dog needs food or water please take them outside where water bowls are provided.

About Us
Set just metres from the River Wensum, The Swan at Ringland has long held a place in the hearts of locals and visitors alike. This much-loved pub has been thoughtfully restored and is now proudly reopened under the stewardship of the Colchester family – the team behind the Recruiting Sergeant and a collection of other pubs around the Norfolk Broads.
Inside, you’ll find a welcoming bar and restaurant area, as well as a flexible space ideal for private gatherings or larger tables. Outside, our garden and patio seating offer the perfect spot to enjoy a drink or meal while soaking up the views of the surrounding countryside. The Swan is also dog-friendly throughout, making it a great stop-off for walkers and nature lovers alike.
We are fortunate to be located in the heart of the Wensum Valley, a designated conservation area of exceptional natural beauty. The River Wensum itself is one of Europe’s most protected chalk streams – a globally rare habitat known for its crystal-clear water and ecological richness. Fed by underground chalk aquifers, the river flows gently through the valley with cool, filtered water that supports an abundance of wildlife, from trout and kingfishers to water voles and otters. It’s no wonder this part of Norfolk is so popular with nature enthusiasts, wild swimmers, and paddleboarders in the warmer months.
The nearby grassy riverbank is a favourite local spot for picnics, paddling, and peaceful strolls, while Wensum Valley Golf Club – just around the corner – makes The Swan an ideal place to unwind after a round with a well-earned pint or satisfying meal.
