The Bird in Hand

Venue

The Bird in Hand is a family run freehouse and restaurant combining all the atmosphere of a traditional British pub with quality food and drink and comfortable surroundings.

We offer a large parking area, indoor and outdoor seated areas, restaurants, bar area and, above all, a friendly atmosphere.

We are lucky enough to have fantastic producers and resources in Norfolk, so we think it makes sense to use products sourced as locally as possible including:

Free-range Beef, Pork, and Lamb from Norfolk, and Suffolk
Fresh fish and shellfish caught off the coasts of Norfolk & Suffolk
Real Ales from breweries in Norfolk and Suffolk
Home-baked bread
Because we cook almost everything from scratch here, we are generally able to accommodate most dietary requirements. If you have an allergy or intolerance, please do let us know at the time of your booking.

The Bird in Hand is located South of Norwich in beautiful countryside, just perfect for a relaxing weekend away, for business trips or just a ‘base’ while you explore Norfolk, we feel confident that you will leave us feeling refreshed and relaxed.

Our breakfast menu has something for everyone, our “Full English” will challenge the healthiest appetite, or perhaps Scottish smoked salmon with scrambled eggs, or French crepes are more to your taste?

Our buffet table features fresh fruit salads, pastries, cereals,  yoghurts and a choice of toasting breads.

A more relaxed dining and drinking experience, the bar is very traditional and showcases items that were once used within the local farming community from years gone by. There is also a strong presence of Lotus memorabilia on display as Lotus Cars PLC are situated very close by.

We offer a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks including an extensive and varied wine list, five or six local real ales, draught Aspalls Suffolk cider and draught lagers including Peroni, Fosters and Kronenbourg. We have a wide range of J2Os, fruit juices and other soft drinks.

The Victorian Restaurant is set in the oldest part of the building and was previously the main bar area and lounge prior to the 1980′s refurbishment. The Victorian restaurant is open on Friday evening, Saturday evening and Sunday lunchtime. It is very popular so be sure to book early to avoid disappointment.

Built in a courtyard setting, each spacious,  en suite room has been thoughtfully designed to offer a truly memorable stay, from the wonderful comfort of our Hypnos king size beds, with supremely soft pillows, to the sumptuous feel of our Egyptian cotton linens.

We are also pleased to offer complimentary toiletries from The White Company.

The Restaurant has been renamed to
"The Champan Room" after the founder of Group Lotus cars, and can now accommodate up to 70 persons for a sit down meal, and we can also cater for buffets for up to 150 people at any one time.

If the sun is shining and you would prefer to dine ‘Al fresco’, we have a choice of two outside dining areas.

With views over the lovely Norfolk countryside, our beautifully tended beer garden with its wooden bench tables is perfect for a casual lunchtime snack or early evening drink.

Have fun in our sunny spacious courtyard terrace. We think we are justifiably proud of this delightful dining area with its stylish tables and chairs and parasols, perfect for all occasion dining we are confident that you will love it as much as we do!

We guarantee you will not leave hungry.
